What is war? According to the "Webster's New Dictionary of the English Langugae" there are four definitions. I would argue that the definition of war is as diverse as people are. Each person with unique experiances and ideas that give rise to a plufera of concepts. A good example of the most nutorious definition of war is found to be the first definition of war in the Webster's dictionary previously mentioned. It dictates that "war is a state of period of opean and declared armed fighting between states or nations." This definition portrays an image of violence and death aranged on a battelfeild and indeed their are numberous exampels throughout human history. In the begining when Homo Sapians were first able to recored history we have found cave paintings of aboringal peoples victories over another tribe. A little further into our history we find "The Odisea" which recalls a great war between the city states of Greace and the empire of Troy. Diving into mondern days we have witnesed two great world wars.
Does the definition of war have to be so specific? Does war have to take place between two states or nations? In the present (we as a country) have redifined war between a nation and an ideal, terrorism. In fact throughout history war has changed in many ways. Like the reason for war has many different faces. We fight for; land, power, resourses, money, belifes, women, even a three day war was fought over a soccer game. War along with its definition is so diverse instead of trying to decribe it with exampels through history a better way might be to classify the many different types. We have nuclear war, religous war, civilized war, total war, star wars, and even war on drugs. To sum up, war is fought for many different ways between different groups. I propose a more vage definition, war is the ultimate consiquence of human ignorance, fear, anger, and hatered when uncontrolled.
